Skiers and Snowboarders

Clean, crisp crystals
sparkling on the mountainside,
Glinting off the pearly ground,
Reflecting into the goggles of
skiers and snowboarders.

Strong, green trees that
stand tall with pride,
Prickly needles on branches which
loftily look down upon the
ants that speed past below.

Robust, bulky boulders that
form misshapen crags,
Providing perfect takeoff points
to fly off of for daring
skiers and snowboarders.

Metallic, precarious chair lifts,
Swinging in time to
a silent, secret melody,
A peaceful place to pause the days of
captivated, vacationing families.

Scraping, squealing screeches
slipping, sliding down the slope
Overlapping, background noise:
a medley of music made by
skiers and snowboarders.

True tranquility, but felt
only in the high serenity
of the mountains that surround
the clear blue waters of
Lake Tahoe.

A convergence of
nature’s best efforts,
A secret secluded and shielded
by the vibrant valley of
skiers and snowboarders.

  1. I really love your utilization of sound devices in the poem, such as the beginning line "Clean, crisp crystals". Your word choices are also spot-on.

  2. I like the use of alliteration and sound to control the flow of the poem. My favorite line is "a secret secluded and shielded." I also like how you took a commonplace thing such as skiing and described it so vividly.

  3. I really like visual picture that this poem creates! I really like your use of alliteration in your third to last stanza. My favorite part is probably your second to last stanza because it adds a really cool aspect of peace to your poem.

  4. I like your use of alliteration and descriptive words to really show the different aspects of Lake Tahoe and how they all combine to form a beautiful whole. My favorite line is "Swinging in time to/a silent, secret melody," which uses enjambment and alliteration while also pointing out an interesting aspect of chair lifts.
