Pond

Pond

Watching the ducks waddle around the pond
Makes me think
Where are they going and what do they have to do
I have three tests, two projects, and about ten million other things to do
Seeing the ducks cause ripples in the murky pond
The flies coming up from the pond just like I hope my grades will as well
All the while, watching ducks hobble about their seemingly simple lives
Maybe filled with small bits of action and even other bits of life
Where they have to get grades and go to college
But they don´t
And I do
And I have been watching the ducks for an hour
Trying to pull myself away from what was now
And hoping that I would be able to  what I want
Just succeed
All you have to do is get grades, test scores, outside activities
And seemingly endless lists.
But I don´t
And they don´t either

  1. I like how you compared flies to your grades. I like the last line the best. The whole poem is very powerful.

  2. I like this new take on worrying about grades while slightly procrastinating. I also found the line "Trying to pull myself away from what was now." I feel like it's saying students look to the future so much that they don't really look at the present.

  5. I really like your use of enjambment as it seems like your thoughts are mixed between ducks and your life. My favorite line is "The ducks in the pond have to worry about finding the next crumb" as it shows the contrast between you and the ducks.

  6. I like the loose rhyming throughout the poem that isn't forced. My favorite line was "And seemingly endless lists" because of how integral it is to the extended metaphor.
