Ode to Paco
White fur
like cotton fluff
or sweet vanilla sprinkles.
The eyes of a teddy bear,
two black beads
burning with a passion
that only I can see.
A reflection into my own existence,
because I shared so much of it
with you,
an entire life we spent together.
Nights that lasted an eternity,
open-eyed,
accompanied by you.
The face of a smiling teddy bear,
clutched in my arms,
illuminated by the moonlight
that seeped through curtained windows
of my bedroom.
You were
fending away my nightmares.
Worn and weary
from the countless hugs
of a once toddler
who needed your companionship.
The presence of a teddy bear,
a friend
forever.
I like how enjambment is used to spread out description to give a better, clearer idea of how Paco looks. My favorite line is "that seeped through curtained windows." I also liked the personal nature of the poem.
ReplyDeleteI think the enjambment in this poem really works, I really like the "A reflection of my own existence" part of the poem. I think the poem is super cute and personally I think odes are really difficult to write so great job with your poem!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the lighthearted and personal nature of your poem. It draws upon your own feelings of nostalgia and made me think of simpler times. My favorite set of lines were, "The eyes of a teddy bear, two black beads, burning with passion." The personification you gave Paco really allowed me to visualize the bond you shared with him. The final line is a great way to end it as it shows how your relationship is still preserved with Paco, even when you grow up.
ReplyDeleteI like your poem because it is very personal and reflects your feelings about Paco well, while also being subtle. It gives off the tone of something comforting that is always there for you. My favorite line is "Worn and weary/from the countless hugs/of a once toddler".
ReplyDeleteI like the way that your second verse uses references to the night to create a cohesive theme. The adjectives you use throughout create a good feeling and soothing rhythm too.
